Sure having your own personalized iGoogle page is pretty cool but everyone is doing it now and you don’t want people thinking you’re a trend follower! It’s time to move on to something new and unknown to the masses, like the Eco-Edition of Flock browser (but this is something we want everyone to start using so they’ll be aware of the latest environmental news).

Pit Stop

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Ever had a flat tire on your bike during your morning commute to work but when you stop by the bike shop it’s not open yet?  Well here’s some promising news for those avid bikers you can’t afford to use the “I got a flat tire” excuse anymore.  Trek has designed a vending machine for small bike repairs; you can put air in your tires, buy a new tube, chain lube, re-energize with an energy bar, hydrate with a water bottle and more! Their testing out the “Trek Stop” now in Madison, Wisconsin so keep an eye out for it and hopefully soon enough we’ll be able to stop by the bike vending machine in cities around the country!

Environmentalist Six Feet Under?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

The TV networks have jumped on the eco band wagon, dropping in sub-plots here and there about sustainability etc., it’s just too bad the HBO series Six Feet Under is off the air because I’ve got the perfect green plug for them. Taking eco-friendliness beyond the grave.  I’m talking environmentally friendly coffins.  Take a minute to let that sink in.  Does it make you cringe just a bit?  Yeah, me too.

CreativeCoffins.com is the answer for those looking to make their eco efforts last longer than them.  This site offers coffins “made from cartonboard materials produced from unbleached pulp containing at least 60% recycled paper plus wood pulp sourced from sustainable forests.” They come in a ridiculous array of designs; you can find a customized coffin for everyone; the floral lover, the wine connoisseur, the sports fanatic, someone who just can’t get enough cheetah print, or you can go with the good ole’ coffin finished to look like real wood or marble.  If none of these options suit you or your loved one’s needs, then why don’t you just go ahead and coffin your own. You come up with your design and they will follow your instructions as closely as possible.  As they put it, they’re offering you the “opportunity to express yourself perfectly for one last time.”

Offset Your Summer Vacation

Friday, July 11th, 2008

It’s summer time, and that means time for the annual summer vacation.  With gas prices so high many Americans are cutting back on their travel time but those of you who just need to get the hell out of dodge, do it to it.  Sure the plane ticket is a little more expensive this summer than last summer’s vacation ticket but hey, the lifelong memories and experiences are worth it right?  Of course they are, but don’t forget the lifelong impact your traveling has on the environment.  Flying emits a heck of a lot of carbon emissions so travel wisely.  Look for straight through flights to save on emissions put out by landing and taking off, who likes lay-overs anyway?  And most importantly, offset your summer vaca carbon emissions with www.carbonfund.org.  By donating to carbon offsetting projects you’ll be able to enjoy a guilt-free summer vacation.  Carbonfund has made it super easy for you too, check and see how many miles you flew or drove and it calculates for you the donation amount needed to offset your travels.

Green your 4th of July BBQ

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Yes it’s America’s birthday again, so go shoot off some horribly loud pyrotechnics, cover everything in American flags and stuff your face with burgers and dogs.  But while you’re filling up your belly with the BBQ classics you can feel a little better about shooting off those fireworks when you’re eating off a biodegradable plate.  Check out locations for recyled paper-plates or for biodegradable plates.  Eat in style and conscientiousness.
